Content Guidelines

Pogenon Books insists on high-quality book content that is family-friendly. The general idea is comparable to movies rated PG or PG-13. That means we will not consider any content that is R-rated or “adult” oriented. No sexual content will be accepted, and we prefer no (zero) foul language. If there is violence, alcohol use, drug use, or any foul language, it must be necessary to the story and done in a way that children are not exposed to anything beyond a “PG” rating.

We fully realize and acknowledge that fantasy and SciFi books need to make use of violent conflict, warfare, battles, and even cruelty at times, but those elements of story and character development can be done artfully and even with beauty. See, for example, J.R.R. Tolkien’s The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings.

Romance is welcome, but stay out of the bedroom.

These guidelines have the sound and feel of being highly subjective. That is true. By submitting content, you acknowledge that the decision to publish or not to publish a manuscript is solely at the discretion of Pogenon Books. Our mission is highly focused on publishing books that we consider “family friendly,” and any manuscript not fitting this guideline will not be accepted for publication. Our considerations are not negotiable (see our Terms and Conditions for more legal language regarding publication decisions). We strongly advise any author who uses any content containing R-rated (or higher) scenes, language, plots, etc., to find publishers who accept such material. Pogenon Books will not consider any such material for publication.
